Are your locksmiths fully qualified and insured?
Yes, all our technicians are fully insured, DBS checked, and highly trained in automotive locksmith services. We carry comprehensive public liability insurance to protect you and your vehicle.
Can you delete my lost or stolen key from the system?
Yes, if you suspect your keys were stolen, our programming process will permanently delete the lost keys from your car's immobiliser memory so they can never be used to steal the vehicle. This is an important security measure we recommend for all lost key situations.
Do you provide spare keys to prevent future lockouts?
Yes, we recommend having a spare key made to prevent expensive 'all keys lost' situations in the future. A spare key costs significantly less than replacing all keys when they're lost. We can make spare keys with or without remote buttons depending on your budget.
How can I contact you for a quote?
You can call us on 07400 007588, WhatsApp us, or fill out our online contact form. We provide free quotes over the phone and can usually give you an exact price within minutes based on your car make, model, and the service you need.
How long does it take to replace a car key if I've lost all of them?
Usually one to two hours on site. Losing every key means we cut a new blade to your lock or key code, then pair it to the immobiliser and delete the missing keys from the system. Older transponder cars are quicker; some proximity systems hold a security delay we have to wait out, and we will tell you if yours is one of them.
Do I need my V5C logbook for a car key replacement?
Yes, or equivalent proof. We ask for the V5C, a rental or lease agreement, or insurance documents showing your name against the vehicle, plus photo ID that matches. It is not paperwork for its own sake: cutting a key to a car for someone who cannot show a right to it is how vehicles get stolen, so every reputable auto locksmith checks.
Can a locksmith make a car key from the VIN number?
Often yes. The VIN lets us retrieve the key code from the manufacturer database, and we cut the blade from that code without needing an existing key. Some makes restrict code access to registered keepers with documentation, and a few require the lock to be decoded directly instead — we can usually tell you which applies over the phone.
Is car key replacement covered by insurance in the UK?
Sometimes. Many comprehensive policies include key cover, and some breakdown policies cover lockouts, but excesses are often close to the cost of the job and a claim can affect your no-claims discount. Check your policy schedule for 'key cover' before claiming. We provide an itemised receipt either way, which is what insurers ask for.
What is the difference between key cutting and key programming?
Cutting is mechanical, programming is electronic. Cutting shapes the blade so it physically turns your lock. Programming pairs the chip inside the key with your car's immobiliser so the engine will start. Almost every car built since 1998 needs both — a cut key that is not programmed will open the door and turn, but the car will not start.
Can you replace a Ford Transit key without the original?
Yes. Transits are one of the most common vans we are called to. We cut a new key from the vehicle's key code or by decoding the lock, then program it through the PATS immobiliser system. Later Transits with keyless entry take longer because the module has to be accessed, but it is still done at the roadside.
Why does my car say 'key not detected' when the battery is new?
Usually the key is not being read rather than not being powered. A new battery fitted the wrong way round, a cracked circuit board from a drop, water damage, or a failed antenna ring around the ignition will all produce that message. Hold the fob against the start button — most cars have a backup coil there. If it starts, the fob is the problem.
